The Little Black Dress

The little black dress. We've all heard this cliche saying about owning a black dress. But do you really want to know why owning one may be so important?

First off, we know that this economy is nothing to get excited about. A black dress is a great item of clothing to invest in because it will never go out of style. Black is never out. Crazy to think that one color can be so powerful, huh? Well it is also magical. It compliments almost every skin tone, and works on all body types. The key is to find the right cut and shape to flatter your body. Whether it's low cut, flowy, tight or loose it will always look great for years to come. To get the most out of your money, be sure to stick with a strictly black dress, no polka-dots or additional color accents or it may become dated sooner than later. Pair your dress with fun accessories to spice it up!

Oscars 2011

I absolutely loved the red carpet looks this year so it was hard to limit my favorite looks to five. Mila Kunis wore one of my all time favorite designers: Ellie Saab. The lilac with her dark features and nude illusions worked great on her, although I wasn't a huge fan of her make up or hair. The Ellie Saab gown was pure perfection and possibly the best look of the night. I adored Gwyneth Paltrow's Calvin Klein gown. It was the great mix of futuristic and metallic. Jennifer Lawrence looked amazing in a simple red hot gown. Natalie Portman looked ravishing in her plum, off the shoulder gown and tassel earrings. Halle Berry rarely fails and was a total knock out in her crystal encrusted corset and tulle gown by Marchesa.

Seventies Chic

Retro is in this season and the 70s has hit the runway and came mainstream to us little people. To get this look, it's all about the exotic jewels, floppy hats, turbans, jumpsuits, sky high platforms, fringe, statement sunglasses, high-waisted jeans and cropped tops. Flared jeans are back in style, and although they may not overtake the skinny jeans we all wear and love, they are hot this season. Bow blouses in silk and satin are gorgeous tucked into a skirt. If you really want to be daring, try a night out on the town in the hot pants that scream ultimate 70’s. Statement leather belts over maxi dresses is a great look to try. Yves Saint Laurent has brought this look into our spring 2011 fashion guide and we can't thank him enough!

Color for Spring 2011

The muted nudes, grays, beiges, tans and blacks were great for fall and winter 2010, but this spring it’s all about color. With new weather brings the need for new boldness, and what better way to be bold than with color. Color combinations are key to nailing this trend. Try mixing complimentary colors together, like a royal purple with a yellow, then splash some pink in the palette. Or try turquoise with a light orange. The hottest colors are turquoise, fuchsia, tangerine, indigo blue and a bright citrus.Wear these shades with neutral shoes and accessories to pull everything together. Also make sure the color palette you choose compliments your skin tone to ensure you are rocking out the trend. MaxMara, Jay Godfrey and Diane von Furstenberg are great references for this look.

The Betty Draper

This season nothing is hotter than blast from the past 1960’s style, also known as the Betty Draper. Mad Men has not only offered a history lesson on advertising in the 60’s and 70’s, but January Jones, who plays Betty Draper in the series, is a new fashion icon for Spring 2011. Classic vintage dresses that place all the emphasis on the waist is a new look to wear this season. Try beautiful chiffons, bright colors and bold patterns. Top it off with a clutch and red lipstick if you want to take this trend all the way, but ditch the cigs.
